Introduction
Kanha Watching tigers roaming freely in the wilderness of their natural habitat is truly thrilling. Listening to their enthralling roar or facing them as they suddenly appear pump adrenaline into the onlookers. One of the finest and best administered National Parks, Kanha Tiger Reserve is irresistible for all wildlife enthusiast. Stretch over 940 sq km, its natural splendor includes Sal forests, panoramic grasslands and meandering rivers.

Kanha National Park is quite rich in flora and fauna. Relatively moderate climate and varied topography create a true heaven for animal and avifauna population. Apart from significant population of Royal Bengal Tigers and only habitat of rare Barahsingha (Cervus duvauceli), the park is also the natural habitat of leopards, sloth bear and Indian wild dog. Escarpments at the edges of valley offer breathtaking views of the park.

Flora
The vegetation at Kanha National Park is chiefly moist deciduous forest interspersed with tropical dry deciduous and grasslands meadows. Extensive Sal (Shorea robusta) and Bamboo forests are the main constituent of entire vegetation. Other important trees include Saj (Terminalia tomentosa), Tendu, Arjun (Terminalia arjuna), Amla (Emblica officinalis), Palas (Butea monosperma), Mango (Mangifera indica), Jamun (Syzygium Cumini) etc.

Gir has seven major perennial rivers and four reservoirs, presenting a panoramic view. The biggest reservoir named Kamleshwar Dam is dubbed as the lifeline of Gir.

Fauna
There is a large tiger population in the Kanha National Park. The park also has a significant population of leopards, sloth bear and Indian wild dog (Cuon alpinus dukhunensis). Rare Indian wolf (Canis (lupus) indica) can also be found here. The park is only left natural habitat of Barahsingha (Cervus duvauceli).

Other commonly observed mammals include the Sambar, spotted deer, common grey langur, wild boar, gaur, golden jackal, Bengal fox, Indian civet, mongoose, striped hyena, jungle cat, pangolin and porcupine.

Mandla has sports clubs, Internet cafes, churches and hundreds of beautiful temples around the city.

Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Kanha National Park is months of January to June. The park is closed from July to September during the monsoon season.

How to Reach
Air : The nearest airports are at Jabalpur (160 km, 3 hours) and Nagpur (260 km, 6 hours).
Rail : Jabalpur is the well-known railway stations.
